PTFE BRAIDED PACKING 

PTFE packing is braided of reinforced acrylic fiber impregnated with PTFE dispersion, its a kind of high-strength, corrosion-resistant, and scour-resistant sealing material, an ideal replacement of asbestos packing. Its not only widely used in pumps, valves, kettles with high line speed and pressure, but also in sealing of liquid container. We can also make acrylic PTFE packing with silicon core. This packing has superior application in old equipment because of its good compressibility and recovery rate.

1. Q: What media and working conditions are PTFE braided packing mainly suitable for?
   A: It is suitable for almost all chemical media (except molten alkali metals and high-temperature fluorine gas), especially strong acids, alkalis, solvents, and oils. The operating temperature ranges from -200°C to +260°C, making it ideal for dynamic and static sealing applications such as pumps, valves, and rotating shafts.

2. Q: How do I select the right packing size based on equipment type?
   A: The cross-section size should be determined by the shaft or valve stem diameter, stuffing box dimensions, and medium pressure. As a general rule, for pumps the packing cross-section is about 1/8 to 1/10 of the shaft diameter; for valves, it should match the stuffing box depth. We provide sizing guidance.

3. Q: What are the advantages of braided packing over common PTFE thread seal tape?
   A: Braided packing offers much higher structural strength, wear resistance, and extrusion resistance. Made from high-strength PTFE fibers and often treated with lubricants or graphite, it can withstand high pressure and high speed for a long time, with a service life far exceeding that of thread seal tape.

4. Q: What are the key installation precautions for packing?
   A: Clean the stuffing box to avoid sharp edges damaging the packing. Stagger the cuts of each ring by 90° or 120° using diagonal cuts. Tighten the gland bolts evenly and symmetrically; a slight leakage is acceptable to ensure lubrication and cooling, while overtightening may cause overheating or burn-out.

5. Q: Is this packing suitable for food-grade or pharmaceutical applications?
   A: Yes. We offer models made from high-purity PTFE fibers and food-grade lubricants that comply with FDA requirements. They are non-toxic and odorless, suitable for industries with strict hygiene standards such as food, beverage, and pharmaceuticals.

   A: PTFE braided packing itself can withstand temperatures up to 260°C, but actual service life depends on the medium, peripheral speed, cooling conditions, etc. For high-speed pumps, we recommend using cooling flush and periodically adjusting the gland to significantly extend service life.

7. Q: Can it be used in reciprocating equipment? What is the difference from packing for rotary equipment?
   A: Yes, it can be used in reciprocating pumps or plungers, but we recommend a denser, more wear-resistant variant. Rotary equipment mainly considers friction heat generation and dissipation, while reciprocating equipment focuses more on wear resistance and pressure fluctuation sealing. We can recommend specialized models based on working conditions.

8. Q: How much leakage is considered normal, and when should the packing be replaced?
   A: For dynamic seals, a slight leakage (about 5-10 drops per minute) is acceptable to ensure lubrication and cooling. If leakage increases significantly, the gland can no longer be tightened, or the packing becomes hard, charred, or shows jetting leakage, immediate replacement is required.

9. Q: How can I avoid premature packing failure? What are common mistakes?
   A: Common mistakes include using the wrong size, failing to stagger the cuts, overtightening the gland, leaving no room for thermal expansion, and selecting the wrong material for the medium.
