Virgin PTFE Rod

Made entirely from 100% virgin PTFE suspension resin with no fillers added.
1.Extruded PTFE Rod: Sintered through continuous ram extrusion to form continuous long rods. Suitable for small-to-medium diameters and mass production. Molecules are oriented along the axial direction, making it ideal for high-volume machining.
2.Compression-Molded PTFE Rod: Subjected to intermittent compression-molding followed by integral sintering. Suitable for large-diameter sizes. The blanks feature dense structure with better resistance to cold-flow creep. Each individual blank is relatively short in length and produced in batches.

Both types are naturally pure white. They deliver excellent chemical corrosion resistance, a wide operating temperature range, a low coefficient of friction and high electrical insulation. They are used for secondary machining into shaft sleeves, sliding blocks, sealing components and insulating spare parts.

Q1: What is the difference between extruded and molded PTFE rod, and which should I choose?
A1: Extruded rods suit standard diameters from 5 to 350 mm with continuous length and better cost efficiency, ideal for most machining blanks. Molded rods are better for large diameters, thick walls, or applications requiring higher density and creep resistance, with better dimensional stability. If unsure, tell us your part shape and load conditions, and we will recommend the right option.

Q2: Can all diameters from 5 to 350 mm be customized in length? What is the minimum order quantity?
A2: Yes, length is fully customizable. Standard lengths can be 1000 mm, 2000 mm, or longer, and we can cut short segments per your part size. MOQ is flexible, typically starting from 5-10 kg per size, depending on diameter and process.

Q3: What does "filler reinforcement on request" mean? How do properties change after filling?
A3: We can add glass fiber, carbon fiber, graphite, molybdenum disulfide, bronze powder, etc., to improve compressive strength, rigidity, wear resistance, thermal conductivity, or creep resistance. Filled materials are better for heavy-duty, high-speed, or high-temperature conditions, but they no longer meet FDA food-contact requirements and are limited to industrial use.

Q4: What is the chemical resistance of pure PTFE rod?
A4: Pure PTFE resists virtually all strong acids, bases, organic solvents, and food media. It does not absorb water or swell, making it ideal for machined parts in corrosive or high-temperature environments.

Q5: Is this rod easy to machine? Can you turn, mill, or drill it according to my drawings?
A5: Both pure and filled PTFE offer excellent machinability. We accept PDF/CAD 2D drawings and IGES/STEP 3D models for turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and slotting, delivering finished or semi-finished parts directly to reduce your processing steps.

Q6: How can I avoid deformation or cracking when machining PTFE rod?
A6: Use sharp tooling, higher cutting speeds, lower feed rates, and sufficient cooling. For thin-walled or complex parts, rough machine first, then finish to relieve internal stress. We can also supply stress-relieved rods to help improve your yield.

Q7: What machining blanks and applications are these rods mainly used for?
A7: Widely used for seal rings, valve seats, guide sleeves, bearings, bushings, rollers, wear strips, gaskets, insulators, and corrosion-resistant liners. They serve chemical pumps and valves, food-processing equipment, semiconductor, medical, electrical, and general machinery industries.

Q8: How do you ensure consistent dimensions and performance for each batch of rod?
A8: We use controlled resin raw materials and standardized molding or extrusion processes. Each batch is tested for density, hardness, tensile strength, and critical dimensions. Retained samples and lot traceability records ensure stable long-term supply quality.

Q9: What is the difference in machinability between pure PTFE and filled PTFE?
A9: Pure PTFE is softer, with lower cutting resistance and better surface finish, but it deforms more easily. Filled PTFE is more rigid with better dimensional stability; it produces slightly more dust during cutting but holds precision better after machining. Choose based on part accuracy and load requirements.
