The engineers have 35 years working experience in the field of PTFE,serving customers in more than 30 countries.

1. Q: What are the real advantages of PEEK sheet compared to other engineering plastics like PTFE or POM?
A: PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) offers outstanding performance advantages. First, it has excellent temperature resistance, with a continuous service temperature up to 260°C, far exceeding PTFE's 220°C and POM's ~100°C, while maintaining excellent mechanical strength at high temperatures. Secondly, it possesses mechanical strength close to metal and very high rigidity, yet its density is only one-third that of aluminum alloy, achieving lightweighting combined with high performance. Additionally, it features inherent flame retardancy (UL94 V-0), excellent hydrolysis resistance, and very low smoke emission, making it suitable for various harsh environments.
2. Q: Why is PEEK so expensive? Is it worth the price?
A: PEEK's high cost stems from its superior comprehensive performance and complex production process. It can work stably for long periods under extreme conditions like 260°C high temperature, high pressure, and strong corrosion. One PEEK component can often replace multiple metal parts and significantly extend equipment maintenance cycles, reducing overall operating costs. For industries like aerospace, medical devices, and semiconductors, where reliability and safety are critical, PEEK's irreplaceability offers excellent value for money.
3. Q: I want to replace metal parts with PEEK sheets. Can I directly substitute them? What should I pay attention to?
A: Absolutely. PEEK is often used to replace metal components in automotive and aerospace industries due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance. However, note that PEEK's coefficient of linear thermal expansion differs from metal. When designing replacement parts, you need to consider the part's wall thickness, assembly tolerances, and operating temperature. We can provide material selection and design advice to help you successfully transition from metal to PEEK.
4. Q: How good is PEEK's corrosion resistance? Can it be used in strong acid environments?
A: PEEK has excellent chemical resistance. At room temperature, apart from a few highly oxidizing acids like concentrated sulfuric acid, it resists most organic and inorganic chemicals, including common acids, bases, salts, ketones, and esters. However, when in contact with strong acids at high temperatures, we recommend providing specific media information so our engineers can conduct further evaluation.
5. Q: Which grades of PEEK sheets can be used for food contact or medical implants?
A: Our offered pure resin PEEK-1000 (natural/beige-gray) series features raw material composition that complies with the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) specifications for food contact. It can also be sterilized using various methods like steam, ethanol, and gamma rays, making it ideal for food processing and medical device fields.
6. Q: I need a PEEK sheet that is both wear-resistant and self-lubricating. Which grade should I choose?
A: For applications requiring high wear resistance and self-lubrication, such as bearings, seals, and wear rings, we strongly recommend the PEEK-HPV (black) or PEEK-CA30 (black) grades. PEEK-HPV is internally filled with PTFE, graphite, and carbon fiber, offering an extremely low friction coefficient, making it a specialized bearing-grade material. PEEK-CA30 is filled with 30% carbon fiber; besides being wear-resistant, its thermal conductivity is 3.5 times higher than pure PEEK, allowing it to dissipate frictional heat from the surface faster, making it suitable for higher PV value conditions.
7. Q: I plan to buy PEEK sheets and machine them myself. What should I pay attention to regarding storage and pre-processing?
A: Certainly. For storage, PEEK sheets should be kept away from light and moisture. When not in use, wrap them in the original plastic film to prevent moisture absorption and dust contamination. Before machining, it is recommended to dry the sheet at 150°C for 3-4 hours to remove any trace amounts of absorbed moisture. This is very important for ensuring the stability of high-precision parts during processing. During machining, remember to remove approximately 0.5-1mm from the surface (the heat-treated skin) and use water-soluble coolant for adequate cooling.
8. Q: Will PEEK sheet performance degrade at high temperatures? What is the maximum temperature it can withstand?
A: PEEK is renowned for its excellent high-temperature performance. Its heat deflection temperature under load reaches up to 316°C, and its long-term continuous service temperature can reach 260°C. This means at 260°C, it still maintains good mechanical strength and dimensional stability, which many other engineering plastics cannot match. However, note that above its glass transition temperature (around 150°C), its mechanical properties begin to change gradually. For high-temperature, heavy-load applications, it is advisable to choose glass fiber (GF30) or carbon fiber (CA30) reinforced grades, as they maintain rigidity better under such conditions.
