Product Description

Product Description

PTFE gaskets, are made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). With its unique chemical and physical properties, they are widely used in many fields. The following is a detailed analysis of its uses and performance:

Creep Resistance Glass Bead Filled Modified PTFE Sealing Gasket for Industrial Use
Creep Resistance Glass Bead Filled Modified PTFE Sealing Gasket for Industrial Use

Main Applications

1. Chemical Industry
Sealing and Anti-corrosion: Used for sealing of pipelines, valves, and reactors, resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, and organic solvents
High Temperature Environment: Maintains performance at extreme temperatures of -200°C to +260°C, suitable for heat exchangers and high-temperature reaction equipment.
2. Food and Medicine Hygiene and Safety: Meets FDA standards, used for sealing of food processing equipment and pharmaceutical machinery to avoid contamination.
3. Electronic and Electrical High-Frequency Insulation: Used as sealing gaskets for cable insulation layers and high-frequency electronic components, with stable dielectric constants and reduced signal loss.
4. Mechanical Industry Low-Friction Seals: Used for dynamic sealing of hydraulic systems, compressors, etc. to reduce wear; Provides airtightness protection in vacuum equipment.

Core performance

1. Chemical corrosion resistance: Almost insoluble in all solvents (except molten alkali metals and high-temperature fluorine gas), resistant to aqua regia corrosion.
2. Wide temperature range adaptability Working temperature range: -200ºC to +260ºC, no brittleness at low temperature, no decomposition at high temperature.
3. Self-lubrication and non-stickiness: The friction coefficient is as low as 0.05-0.10, the surface is anti-sticky, easy to clean, and suitable for viscous medium sealing.
4. Excellent electrical insulation: The dielectric strength is as high as 20kV/mm, the dielectric loss is small, and it is suitable for high-frequency and high-voltage environments.
5. Flexibility and plasticity: It can be processed into special-shaped gaskets through molding, turning and other processes to adapt to complex sealing surfaces.

Limitations and precautions

1. Poor creep resistance: It is easy to deform under long-term high pressure, and needs to be checked regularly or used in combination with reinforcing materials (such as graphite and glass fiber).
2. Low mechanical strength: The tensile strength is about 20-35MPa, and it is not suitable to be used alone in high-pressure impact scenarios.
3. Poor thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity coefficient is 0.25 W/(m·K), and it should be avoided in key heat dissipation parts.
4. Insufficient wear resistance: It may wear during high-load dynamic sealing, and fillers (such as carbon fiber) can be added to improve wear resistance.

PTFE gaskets are ideal sealing materials for chemical, food, electronics and other fields, especially in corrosion, high temperature and insulation scenarios. However, their mechanical performance limitations require users to select reinforced PTFE or composite gaskets according to specific working conditions (such as pressure, dynamic load) to ensure long-term reliability.

FAQ

1. Q: What are the main advantages of glass bead filled reinforced PTFE gaskets over virgin PTFE gaskets?
A: The addition of glass microspheres significantly improves creep resistance and cold flow resistance, while enhancing wear resistance and dimensional stability. This allows the gasket to seal more durably under high pressure or cyclic loading conditions, reducing common compression deformation issues seen in virgin PTFE.

2. Q: What media environments are these gaskets suitable for?
A: They inherit PTFE's excellent chemical resistance and work well with most media, including strong acids, alkalis, organic solvents, and steam. However, they are not recommended for high-concentration acid or high-temperature strong alkali environments, as these may corrode the glass component.

3. Q: What is the standard filler ratio? Can the filling ratio be adjusted?
A: The standard ratio is typically 15%-25% by weight of glass microspheres - an optimized general-purpose reinforcement formulation. If your application requires a different ratio, we can adjust it upon request, though this may affect certain physical properties. Please discuss your needs with us beforehand.

4. Q: What is the maximum custom size available? Is there a minimum thickness limitation?
A: We can custom-make gaskets up to 2000 mm in outer diameter and as thin as 1.5 mm. Final dimensions depend on the shape (circular, non-standard, etc.). Please provide your drawing or size requirements, and we will evaluate the feasible range.

5. Q: Can this gasket be used in food or pharmaceutical applications?
A: The glass bead filled PTFE material is non-toxic and odorless, and it complies with FDA requirements for PTFE composites intended for food contact. Final applicability depends on your local regulations. We can provide a declaration of conformity upon request.

6. Q: How does the pressure rating compare to unfilled PTFE?
A: The glass microspheres increase stiffness and compressive strength, so the recommended maximum allowable sealing pressure is typically 20%-30% higher than that of virgin PTFE. Please refer to our technical datasheet for exact values, or we can help calculate based on your flange type and bolt load.

7. Q: Do glass microspheres detach from the gasket surface and contaminate the system?
A: No. The glass microspheres are tightly encapsulated by the PTFE matrix. The surface is smooth and dense after molding or skiving, so particle detachment does not occur under normal use. Therefore, this gasket is suitable for clean systems such as hydraulic circuits or precision instruments.

8. Q: Does the filler affect PTFE's thermal stability during long-term high-temperature exposure?
A: Glass microspheres themselves have excellent heat resistance (>800°C) and do not lower PTFE's decomposition temperature. However, the continuous service temperature of the composite is still recommended not to exceed 200°C, as the PTFE matrix gradually softens above this point. Short-term peaks up to 260°C are acceptable.
